Statement regarding MDMA incidents at the Weekender festival

02 September 2019

Sunday, 1 September 2019

“Jersey Ambulance Service and Jersey Youth Service are warning those attending Sunday’s Weekender event about ‘super-strength’ MDMA that is currently circulating in the Island.

“This follows a number of people requiring treatment onsite by paramedics and St John’s Ambulance, after taking MDMA Skype tablets at the event last night. Two further people attended the General Hospital Emergency Department on Saturday 31 August, but have since been discharged.

“Festival-goers are strongly advised not to take MDMA, which has already been linked with the death of a 29-year-old Islander on 18 August, and a number of deaths in the UK over the last few months.

“Anyone who is feeling unwell having taken any drug, or has concerns about the wellbeing of someone they know, should seek urgent medical attention. Festival-goers are advised go straight to the Weekender Welfare Tent onsite, where help, support and medical assistance will be provided.”

“Following the MDMA warning issued yesterday, we can report that two individuals were treated onsite at the Welfare Tent after taking MDMA, but neither required hospital admittance on Sunday, 1 September.

“We would like thank the team of paramedics, St John Ambulance, Jersey Youth Service, Ambulance Support Unit, attending onsite doctor, States of Jersey Police and staff in the Emergency Department who all worked tirelessly over the weekend to keep people safe that attended the Weekender festival.”
