Opportunity to bid for rare registration marks

15 April 2019

DVS vehicle registration marks auction

Islanders interested in a rare or unusual registration mark for their vehicle will have the chance to bid for one, or more, later this month.

Registration marks, including four-digit J-numbers and low JSY-numbers, will go under the hammer at Hotel de France on Saturday 27 April, as part of Driver and Vehicle Standards’ annual auction.

The registration marks include short numbers that are easy to remember, as well as sequential numbers that are often popular with couples or for business fleet vehicles.

Gordon Forrest, Head of Driver and Vehicle Standards, said: “The annual auction gives islanders a further opportunity to purchase a special registration mark for their vehicles. We have a small number of four-digit marks available throughout the year, but we keep other desirable numbers and JSY-numbers reserved for the auction sale.

“There are more than 50 registration marks up for auction this year, including 20 four-digit J-numbers, and two of our most interesting six-digit numbers: J202020 and J303030. We also have JSY007 going under the hammer, which we’re expecting to generate a lot of interest.”

Income from the auction, which raised more than £230,000 last year, will help Growth, Housing and Environment to pay for essential DVS equipment and other transport-related projects.

The auction room will open to prospective bidders from 9am next Saturday, and the sale will begin at 10.30am. All islanders interested in bidding are welcome to attend on the day, and must register their details with the auctioneers before the sale starts. It is free to attend and to register.

Anyone wishing to leave an absentee bid must leave it with the auctioneers at least one hour before the sale begins.

Islanders wishing to find out more about the auction should contact Simon Drieu & Co auctioneers, by calling +44(0)1534 869 300 or by emailing enquiries@jerseyauctioneers.com. More information is also available on their website.
