This week sees the launch of this year's Jersey Opinions and Lifestyle Survey (JOLS). Statistics Jersey run the survey every year to collect information from Islanders, helping the government to plan and deliver public services.

This year the survey is gathering people's opinions on how the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak is impacting their lives, in areas including:

  • health and wellbeing
  • work and household finances
  • smoking and drinking habits
  • general concerns about the outbreak

Over the next few days, around 5,000 randomly selected households will receive a questionnaire through the post. To make sure we have a good mix of ages responding, we ask the person in the household who has their birthday next (and is aged 16 or over) to complete the questionnaire – either by filling in the booklet or going online.

The responses are completely confidential and are only used to produce grouped statistics. The results of the survey will be published around the end of this summer. Previous questionnaires and reports can be found at www.gov.je/statistics.

Commenting on the survey Dr Duncan Gibaut, Chief Statistician of Statistics Jersey, said: "The annual survey is an invaluable source of information on Islanders' opinions and lifestyles, and I'd really encourage everyone who receives the survey to take part.

"All responses to the survey will be treated in the strictest confidence and will only be used to produce aggregate statistics. By taking part you'll help us all gain a better understanding of Islanders' opinions and way of life."
