Virtual tour of proposed Care Memorial designs

08 October 2020

Islanders can take a virtual gallery tour to see the three shortlisted designs for a memorial to acknowledge those who were failed while in Jersey’s care system.

A public exhibition showcasing the designs for the Jersey Care Memorial, which will be located in Weighbridge Place, opened to the public today (Thursday 8 October) at Private and Public, Phillips Street, St Helier. The exhibition runs Thursday to Saturday 10 October, between 10am and 6pm each day.

However, Islanders who cannot attend the gallery in person can still view the proposed designs by taking a virtual tour as a 360° scan of the room has been taken and uploaded online. They can also find out more about the memorial by logging on to www.gov.je/carememorial.

The Citizens’ Panel, which was formed after the Care Inquiry and is made up of survivors and members of the wider public, shortlisted eight proposals to three. It is now seeking public feedback on the three designs. The public will be able to leave feedback online or in paper form at the gallery. All comments need to be submitted by 5.00pm on Wednesday 14 October.

In the final stage of the selection process each design team will be asked to formally present their proposal before being interviewed by the Citizens’ Panel. The final design is expected to be announced in November.
