Co-Funded Payroll Scheme extended

21 May 2021

The Minister for Treasury and Resources, Deputy Susie Pinel, has confirmed that taxi firms will be able to continue claiming under the Co-Funded Payroll Scheme (CFPS) until June.

In early April, the Government announced that CFPS support would be extended into May and June for the sectors most affected by the Winter Strategy Circuit Breaker.

This was based on the Island's progress through the Island Reconnection Roadmap, and the continued reopening of borders and businesses.

Some sectors (including hospitality, events, and non-essential retail) can still claim until June under an Elevated Scheme. Businesses linked directly to the travel sector – such as car hire companies and inbound passenger services – continued to be eligible for the Standard Scheme.

Taxi firms have now been included in the Standard Scheme, which means that taxi firms (including the self-employed), can continue to claim through the CFPS on their existing terms until June, with payments to be made in July.

Minister for Treasury and Resources, Deputy Susie Pinel, said: "Government support has always been based on the practical impact of the pandemic on businesses.

We know that with the slow recovery of the travel sector, and the night-time economy only partially re-opened, taxi firms are still finding conditions challenging.

"This extension of the Co-Funded Payroll Scheme will enable them to continue trading until we see conditions improve."

Minister for Economic Development, Senator Lyndon Farnham, said: "I'm pleased that we have been able to extend support for a sector which has been heavily impacted by ongoing restrictions."
