Planning approval for Les Quennevais Skatepark

18 November 2021

Plans to build a new skatepark at Les Quennevais have been approved.

Earlier this year, plans for Les Quennevais skatepark were submitted and registered.

Today they have been considered by the planning committee and given approval.

The procurement process for a construction contractor is in process with the successful contractor due to be approved and appointed by the end of the year.  With planning approval now in place, the successful contractors will be able to begin work on site in January, with a target completion date of the end of May.

Assistant Minister for Economic Development with responsibility for sport, Deputy Hugh Raymond, said: “I’m delighted that we now have approval to proceed with our plans for a new skatepark at Les Quennevais.  The preparation work is progressing well and opening the park by late spring next year remains a top priority for the team.

“Meanwhile plans are being developed for the proposed park at South Hill, which will need to fit with the wider plans for that area.  While this park won’t be ready at the same time as Les Quennevais, we have budget allocated in the next Government Plan and are committed to delivering this second park, plus other facilities in rural parishes.”

Karl Payne, who chairs the Jersey Skateparks Association, said: “This is fantastic news - not just for the extensive network of skatepark-users, but also the entire community here in Jersey.  Urban sports are becoming increasingly popular on the Island, but the availability of suitable purpose-built facilities has not kept up with this demand. With this new facility, we hope to see urban sports flourish, and more elite athletes progress from Jersey.”

The Government is developing dedicated web pages on the Inspiring Active Places website www.inspiringactiveplaces.je which will be used to keep Islanders updated.
