Statement of significance
A Victorian parish school, unusual in having two detached schoolrooms, with many notable external features, including fine stone windows, and some internal features of historic significance surviving.

External Description
2 detached schoolrooms, northern of 1897 slightly smaller than, and in similar style to, southern of 1854. Southern schoolroom: pitched slate roof, 3 ridge ventilators, minus louvered ventilation cupolas, dressed granite chimney to south end, gabled bellcote with single bell in Gothic arch at north end. Front (west) elevation: coursed rock-faced granite, dressed granite quoins, dressed limestone to paired lancet window openings at north end, doorway with pitched roof gable inset to main roof, dressed granite corbels and to opening, in form of tall Gothic arch with stepped lintels, modern window frames, large picture window inserted to south of arch, single storey 1910 granite extension to south; cast iron gates on chamfered granite piers with cross-gabled caps to road in front of doorway, set into low granite walls with iron railings. Side (south) elevation: coursed rock-faced granite, dressed granite blocks to quoins and openings, large central window, shallow arch, raised keystone, small louvered ventilation lancet above in gable. Side (north) elevation: similar but smaller more complex central window: limestone dressings, triple lancets with 4 smaller lancets forming Gothic arch above. Rear (east) elevation: various later extensions. Northern schoolroom: single storey, 3 bay; pitched slate roof, ornate central ventilation cupola with onion dome, cresting. Front (west) elevation: random rock-faced granite, dressed granite blocks to quoins and openings, granite porch to north corner, deep parapet, large flat-arched doorway, replacement door; paired lancet windows flank large central triple lancet Gothic arched window beneath pitched slate gable rising into main roof, timber bargeboards. Side, south and north elevations: similar; timber bargeboards, large window rising into gable end similar to centre of main front; fronted by low granite walls to road with iron railings between granite piers.
Internal Description
Each schoolroom a single room, with some surviving features including timber plank panelling up to moulded dado rail, deep skirtings, some panelled doors and moulded frames. Southern schoolroom: exposed roof trusses springing from octagonal moulded corbels part way down the walls, 4 ornate iron moulded ceiling ventilation roses, glass full height partition dividing space into 2 unequal halves, external door lintel towards south end of west wall inscribed 'Ora et labora'. Northern schoolroom: suspended modern ceiling hides roof, but believed to be similar to southern schoolroom, single moulded plastered corbel and round blind arch visible on east wall.
