Request

Please provide the most recent statistics on failed discharges from Jersey General Hospital to both care homes and domiciliary care.

Response

‘Failed discharge’ is not a category or field option available within the Electronic Patient Record.  Whilst there may be documentation within individual medical records, no central record is available to report from.  Therefore, Article 3 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 applies.

Data for emergency re-admissions to hospital within 30 days of a previous discharge are available in the Health and Community Services Quality and Performance Reports, and in the Health and Community Services Advisory Board papers, on www.gov.je:

Health and Community Services Quality and Performance Reports (gov.je)

Health and Community Services Advisory Board (gov.je)

Admission within 30 days of a previous discharge does not implicitly reflect a failed discharge.

Article applied

For the purposes of this Law, information is held by a public authority if –

(a)     it is held by the authority, otherwise than on behalf of another person; or

(b)     it is held by another person on behalf of the authority.
