New Chairman for Tourism Development Fund

31 August 2006

Economic Development Minister Philip Ozouf has appointed John King as chairman of the new Tourism Development Fund (TDF) Advisory Panel.

Economic Development Minister, Senator Philip Ozouf said: “I am delighted that John King has agreed to chair the TDF Advisory panel. TDF has a key role in the revitalisation of Jersey’s visitor economy which is an important element of the States’ Strategic Plan”.

The Panel's role is to evaluate all proposals brought forward for TDF funding and recommend to the Minister projects that should be undertaken in support of the strategy to further develop the Island's visitor economy.

The TDF is an important element in the development of Jersey's visitor economy that has supported 50 projects since 2002 including Liberation 60, the enhancement of Bouley Bay, Discovery Pier in Gorey and the Coastal Forts and Fortifications. To improve the performance of the fund and, subject to States approval, it is intended, in future, the eligibility for TDF funding is extended to all potential projects that can play a part in revitalising the sector.

John King commented “I am delighted to be asked to undertake the role of TDF Committee chairman. I look forward to working with my colleagues on the Panel and businesses in the Island during what is a very exciting period in the development of Jersey's tourism offering. The Panel will be placing increased emphasis on larger high impact projects whilst continuing to support smaller projects that can make a contribution to Jersey's offering in the increasingly competitive tourism market"
