Rouge Bouillon School meets Investors in People status

20 March 2007

Rouge Bouillon School, the largest primary school in Jersey, has recently achieved the internationally recognised Investors in People Standard (IiP).

A presentation to Rouge Bouillon School will be made by Senator Mike Vibert, Minister for Education, Sport and Culture, at 2.00 p.m. at the Open Day, on Thursday 22 March 2007.

Headteacher, James Speight paid tribute to the commitment and hard work of the staff in achieving this prestigious award.

Mr Speight said “The school has gone through significant change in recent years. It is a credit to our loyal, committed staff and their tremendous contribution that we have attained the standard”.

Key areas of Rouge Bouillon School’s significant success noted by the assessor, Peter Clarke, included the recognition that “People had a clear understanding of the school’s priorities and were committed to achieving its aim of providing all individuals with the opportunity to recognise and achieve their full potential in a caring and stimulating community”.

“The working environment in the school has progressed significantly in respect of the commitment to learning and development to support the curriculum, and people development throughout the school” and that “effective communications were evident, with a wide range of processes across the school. Evidence was seen of good lateral communications and consultation.”

Rouge Bouillon School employs 49 staff and achieved the Standard at its first assessment, less than two years after committing.

Those who meet the standard must demonstrate commitment to staff development, including a clear business plan, staff understanding of the organisation’s aims and objectives, management support, recognition of staff contribution and encouragement to improve standards.

Enterprise and Business Development (E&BD), formerly the Training and Employment Partnership (TEP) manages the Investors in People programme on the Island. E&BD has a much wider remit in other areas of business creation and growth, as well as international trade and investment and further training and skills development.

The business unit continues to work with Jersey employers and employees to raise skills, improve business performance and promote a competitive, well-trained and flexible labour market through such highly successful initiatives as the Jersey Undergraduate Internship and the Jersey Apprenticeship Scheme. Other assistance offered includes business advisers, the Jersey Export Development Initiative, the Jersey Innovation Initiative and, through the local high street banks, a Small Firms Loan Guarantee scheme.
