Changes To Green Waste Reception

30 December 2008

Transport and Technical Services (TTS) wish to inform commercial and domestic users of the La Collette Green Waste Site of some important changes taking place early next year.

Due to enabling works for the new Energy from Waste Plant, the La Collette Green Waste site will be closed to all deliveries on Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th January 2009.

The site will open as usual on Monday 12th January 2009 for two days but the site will then close permanently.

On Wednesday 14th January 2009, two new sites will open: one, a new permanent site at La Collette receiving commercial green waste and a second temporary site at Gate 15, Bellozanne Valley receiving only household green waste.

The commercial green waste site will be open Monday – Friday 0730 – 1545 but will be closed on Saturdays. The domestic green waste site will be open for the same period in the week but also open Saturdays 0730 – 1615 and Sundays 0800 – 1245.

The La Collette Green Waste site has been open since 2003 and TTS has been looking for an alternative public reception site for some time due to the site’s location within the Fuel Farms Hazards Zone. The site is also now required for enabling works for the new Energy from Waste Plant which is scheduled to be complete by 2011.

John Richardson, Chief Officer said ‘ We have experienced difficulty in finding an alternative green waste site but we have to move forward as it is no longer acceptable to send the public into a high risk area at La Collette. We have created a temporary site for household waste at Bellozanne. Unfortunately the department does not have sufficient resource to run two sites at weekends so the commercial reception site will be restricted to weekdays only. The public facility at Bellozanne is only temporary as the department is currently planning a new site to provide the general public with a much improved facility.’
