E-safety retail awareness certificate presentation

11 November 2009

JCPC e-safety retail awareness certificate presentation to trained retailers by Minister Ann Pryke on Saturday 14 November 2pm

The Jersey Child Protection Committee is awarding certificates to all retailers who have taken part in their e-safety training programme. The JCPC has been promoting awareness of the dangers children may face when using  21st century technology, and has been training shop workers to help parents and carers protect their children on-line.

The Chair of the E-Safety Sub-Committee, Nola Hopkins, and the JCPC’s Professional Officer, Cathy Phillips, have offered 1 hour training sessions for retail staff to help parents make the right decision when they buy internet-capable technology. The training includes information about the right software to install on any new equipment.

Several retailers have completed the training and to acknowledge this the JCPC is awarding each individual who took part a certificate of participation and a sticker to display in their shop window to show customers that staff there are trained to answer e-safety questions.

All participating stores will be acknowledged at a CEOP (Child Exploitation On-Line Protection) event on 11 and 12 November.  This event includes awareness sessions for professionals and parents throughout the island.

We will also be raising public awareness of these issues at participating stores on Saturday 14 November. In partnership with Jersey Telecom, we will be giving out leaflets, trained staff will be wearing badges, and JCPC representatives will be on hand to answer questions during the afternoon.

The Minister for Health & Social Services, Deputy Anne Pryke, will also be handing out certificates to staff who have completed the training.
