Fiscal stimulus improves rental homes

24 June 2010

Treasury and Resources Minister Senator Philip Ozouf has approved the allocation of £637,000 from the £44 million fiscal stimulus pot to improve States rental homes at Great Union Road, Pre de Talbot, St Georges Estate and Town Mills.  The work will complement a significant programme of refurbishment work already being undertaken by the department.

Tenders for the maintenance projects, which include roof replacements and upgrading windows, have been received and evaluated by the Housing Department.

Acting Treasury Minister Deputy Eddie Noel said “All these projects will provide work for local business and labour, and are programmed to be undertaken substantially in 2010, which significantly increases public sector spending and investment in social housing stock.”

Housing Minister Deputy Sean Power said “We have a commitment to addressing deficiencies in standards across the social housing portfolio. This work was already planned, but without the discretionary fiscal stimulus it would have had to be delivered over a longer time period because of funding constraints.”
