Jersey Boat Show

21 April 2010

The Jersey Boat Show, which takes places on 1 to 3 May in St Helier marina, is a great opportunity to find out more about life at sea.

The show includes a new fisherman’s village where genuine Jersey produce will be on offer. Visitors will also get the chance to taste life on the ocean at the “Condor Get on Board” pontoons, where there will be a wide variety of boats to clamber aboard, including the 79 metre Fisheries Protection vessel, HMS Mersey; the Tall Ship, Lord Nelson; the Port of Jersey tug, Duke of Normandy and 2 of the navy’s training vessels, HMS Tracker and Trumpeter.

Visitors will also be able to experience life under the waves by taking the opportunity to ‘Try a Dive'. The Band of her Majesty’s Royal Marines will also be playing its world famous Beat Retreat. The band will also be joining young Jersey musicians at a gala concert at Jersey’s Opera House.

The boat show will be opened by Jersey’s TV chef, Shaun Rankin and powerboat champion Shelley Jory.

Commercial Director, Myra Shacklady said “The event is shaping up well and our team are very busy behind the scenes, making sure that everything is set for our third boat show. The events of the past few days have highlighted that as an island we are even more reliant on our seaways than most. We hope that by the time our boat show opens during the May Bank Holiday, people will be able to focus their attention on boats and our maritime environment in a positive and enjoyable way. We are looking forward to an exciting festival weekend, which is of course free to everyone.”
