Rozel sewer works

31 March 2010

Transport and Technical Services (TTS) is replacing sewage pipework in the Rozel area after Easter, for about 16 weeks.  There will be road closures and traffic restrictions in several roads, including La Vallée de Rozel and La Grande Route de Rozel.

The existing foul sewage drainage system serving the Rozel area was installed in the early 1980s.  The material used to construct the pipes, although industry standard at the time, is now known to be susceptible to failure. TTS has a programme of replacing these pipes with more durable material as there have been several failures around the Island.  3 sections of Rozel’s pumping mains will be replaced, totalling approximately 1,100 m.

The £690,000 project will start on Tuesday 6 April and traffic diversions will be in place. The work on La Grande Route de Rozel will start the following week on 12 April, for 3 weeks and will require the closure of road between La Rue de la Fosse à Grès and La Rue de la Palloterie. Work will take place from 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday and on Saturday from 9am until 1pm.  There will be no Sunday or Bank Holiday working.

However, there is a short section of work at the bottom of La Vallee de Rozel which will be undertaken between 8am and 8pm, 7 days a week, in order to re-open this section of road as quick as possible. Motorists are requested to be aware of the diversions that will be in place, and which will change during the course of the work. In some instances the diversion routes will only operate during working hours.

“Unfortunately this essential work will require quite a lot of disruption in the Rozel area,” said Connètable Mike Jackson, Minister for TTS. “We are trying to keep it to a minimum and we will make sure our contractors properly sign the diversions and keep residents and businesses informed.”

Details of the works will be published in the Traffic Information section of www.gov.je.
