Closer to Home event success

20 July 2020

Over 60 Islanders attended the latest Closer to Home event, which was held on Wednesday 15 July at the Salvation Army headquarters on Minden Street. The event was the first event since the COVID-19 outbreak.

Closer to Home is an initiative which brings together government and the voluntary and community sector to bring support and advice closer to customers, at locations across the Island.

Last week, over 15 organisations were on hand to offer free and impartial advice on a range of topics, including personal finance, wellbeing, housing, and job-seeking.

Minister for Social Security, Deputy Judy Martin, said: “It’s great to see this popular community initiative back on the calendar, after a break during lockdown.

“Working together with our community and voluntary partners in this way (along with the number of attendees) shows that there is a real demand for this type of event. The last few months have introduced a lot of uncertainty into many Islander’s lives, so it’s more important than ever that people have access to support and information.”

The next event is currently being planned, and more details will be released shortly.

Voluntary or community organisations who want to take part in the next Closer to Home event can register their interest by emailing closertohome@gov.je.
