Coronavirus helpline update

09 April 2020

Colleagues at the Government of Jersey’s coronavirus helpline have received over 12500 in three weeks. On average, they receive 550 calls per day. On their busiest day – 16 March – they received 2025 calls.

The helpline – which is led by Customer and Local Services - has brought together colleagues from across Government departments to offer support, advice and guidance to Islanders.

  • The team, working alongside colleagues from Health and Community Services and Environmental Health, can answer queries about:
  • Latest public health measures
  • Potential symptoms of coronavirus
  • Working arrangements for businesses and individuals
  • Social distancing and self-isolation
  • Connect Me Service
  • Charity and volunteering services

The helpline is usually open from 8am to 8pm, seven days a week. Over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend, the helpline will be open between 10am and 4pm. Usual opening hours will resume on Tuesday 14 April.

The helpline offers a translation service in all the Island’s community languages, including Portuguese, Polish, Romanian and French.

Sophie Le Sueur, Group Director of Customer and Local Services said: “I’m so grateful to all the colleagues working on the helpline for the resilience and empathy they’ve shown in dealing with this challenging situation.

“I’d encourage any Islanders who are concerned by potential symptoms, or who have questions about how the latest advice will affect them, to call the helpline on (01534) 445566.”

Assistant Chief Minister, Connétable Richard Buchanan, said: “This helpline is a testament to what we can achieve when we work together across Government. We have brought together staff from across departments in record time to ensure that we can support Islanders during this difficult time.

“I’d like to thank all the staff – some of whom have been re-deployed from other roles – for their commitment in providing this fantastic service.”
