Update to physical distancing guidance at funerals

24 May 2021

Physical distancing guidance for funerals will be lifted, effective from Wednesday 26 May. This means that people can attend a funeral without maintaining one to two metres physical distancing from others, allowing more people to attend.

Minister for Health and Social Services, Deputy Richard Renouf, said: "Following careful consideration, and on the advice of the Medical Officer for Health, I am pleased that we are able to amend the guidance on physical distancing at funerals. Doing so will increase the capacity within churches and the Crematorium, therefore allowing more people to attend.

"Whilst guidance is to be amended allowing more people to attend, the law will continue to require people to wear masks at a funeral if more than 50 people are in attendance.

"Due to the special nature of funerals, I am sure many Islanders will welcome this change to public health guidance which has only been possible due to the continued support from the community who are consistently attending their vaccination appointments and adhering to COVID-19 guidelines."
