Indicator Grading
The Red/Amber/Green (RAG) gradings for each indicator are based on how its time series trend compares to the ambition for that indicator. E.g. if we have an ambition for crime rate to be falling, and it is - the indicator will be graded Green; however if crime rate is increasing - it will be graded Red.
Outcome Grading
Outcomes are also given a RAG grading - calculated by the number of Green, Amber and Red indicators it contains.
Chart filters
Year - choose a year to display on the chart the Red/Amber/Green statuses will correspond to that year. If an indicator has no data for a year - it will display as Gray. Selecting ‘latest data’ will return the grading based on the most recent year data is available for each indicator.
Trend Period - choose whether to analyse the trend over 3 years, 5 year, 10 years or all data points prior to the year in question. This will affect the gradings of indicators – the short-term trend may differ from the long term trend.
Reasons for change
The current tabular presentation of the Island Outcome Indicators using Clear Impact shows data on 193 indicators, gives a detailed time series and commentary for each. However, Clear Impact struggles to describe how the Island is faring overall: is life in Jersey getting better or worse?
The new chart has 69 Indicators (with 13 more in development); gives each a Red / Amber / Green (RAG) status and aggregates them at Outcome and Pillar level giving a better description of life in Jersey overall. While the total number of Indicators in the new chart is reduced, the overall understanding of life in Jersey is enhanced.
