About the project
The Gunsite flood alleviation scheme starts phase 3 on Monday 28 September and will take 9 weeks to complete (weather permitting). The project is to raise and reshape 90 metres of sea wall to deflect waves and reduce the volumes of overtopping water that causes flooding in the area.
The works consists in demolishing part of the existing sea wall, install anchors to allow the new and existing structures to connect, then concrete a higher curved beam on top of the sea wall.
Flood protection will be maintained by using large sand bags and limiting the lenght of the wall to be demolished at any one time.
Map of area of work
Cyclist access will be maintained at all times.
As the working area is limited, pedestrians will be diverted to a platform constructed on site and located on the grass verge. This platform will be in place for the duration of the project.
