Eco-Active biodiversity championship scheme

About the Eco-Active Biodiversity Championship scheme

The States of Jersey aims to provide the public with an increased chance to learn more about the rich tapestry of life in Jersey through a targeted programme called the Eco-Active Biodiversity Championship scheme.

The scheme provides an opportunity for businesses, community groups and schools to get involved in monitoring and conserving local wildlife through implementing Jersey’s Biodiversity Action Plans.

How the Biodiversity Championship scheme works

A biodiversity champion is a person or a group of people who help save, campaign, promote and sponsor an animal, plant or habitat. Champions do not have to have any prior knowledge about conservation. Instead their role is to provide resources to aid implementation of the biodiversity action plans and save Jersey’s natural environment.

You can help in the following ways:

  • assisting with practical habitat / conservation work
  • assisting with environmental survey work
  • by providing in-kind support eg materials, equipment
  • by providing services or funds to help raise awareness

Becoming a Biodiversity Champion

You will first need to decide what species or habitat you would like to support. A lot of time goes into planning and discussing what you would like to sign up to do. You also need to think about how long you would like to be a champion.
