Recycling: plastic food packaging

You cannot recycle plastic food packaging

​You can only recycle plastic bottles. You cannot recycle plastic:

  • pots
  • trays
  • tubs
  • film (cling film)

You should put these with your general waste.

​Buy unpackaged fruits and vegetables to reduce the amount of plastic waste.

Good to know

  • plastic pots, tubs and trays cannot be recycled because they are made of low-grade mixed plastics. We would need to send these to China to be recycled and we do not think this is a viable solution for Jersey
  • some goods are packaged in compostable packaging that can be added to your home composting system
