It sets out the actions that Jersey needs to reduce the Island's greenhouse gas emissions as far as possible by 2050 and reach our net zero target. Phasing-out petrol and diesel vehiclesPolicy TR5 of the Carbon Neutral Roadmap is to phase-out the importation and registration of petrol and diesel vehicles that are new to the Island, from 2030 onwards. The UK is preparing to phase-out the sale of new petrol and diesel vehicles from 2030. Jersey's phase-out will prevent specific groups of vehicles from being permanently brought to the Island, with some exemptions. Vehicles already registered in Jersey will not be affected.Phasing-out petrol and diesel vehiclesJersey's road transport emissionsIn 2023, 27% of Jersey's greenhouse gas emissions were produced by petrol and diesel vehicles, totalling almost 97,000 tonnes. Transitioning to lower and zero emissions vehicles will reduce the environmental impact of Islanders' road vehicle journeys, as well as reducing associated air and noise pollution.
