Recruitment of Chair for The Jersey Appointments Commission

Chair role

The Jersey Appointments Commission is the independent body established to oversee public appointments, as set out in the Employment of States of Jersey Employees (Jersey) Law 2005. The Commission ensures appointments are made based on merit and in line with best practice in recruitment. It sets appointment guidelines and audits practices, for both appointments to senior roles within the Public Service and independent arm's length bodies. The Chair and Commissioners also participate in the selection process for the most senior appointments.

As Chair of the Commission, supported by the States' People and Corporate Service Department, you will fulfil this important statutory role, leading a robust, independent appointments commission to ensure that senior appointments to the public service and to independent arm's length bodies are properly made, and to ensure public appointments are made in accordance with the latest legislation

The Government has recently consulted on possible amendments to the Law with the objective of strengthening the professional independence of the Jersey Appointments Commission. You will have a key role to play in this review.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you'll have exceptional relationship building skills, political acumen and considerable experience of board level leadership coupled with the highest standards of probity in appointing into senior roles and the overall resourcing processes.

Remuneration will be on a daily rate basis chairing a board meeting once a month. Additionally, you will be required to act as the lead commissioner on the very senior level appointments into the public service and independent arm's length bodies.
