Love Jersey

Live date: August 2016

What is Love Jersey?

Love Jersey is an app and a website with two main functions.

Firstly, you can use it to report problems that need attention. These range from overhanging trees, to full recycling bins and damaged pavements. By reporting the problems, it gives you a chance to show your community spirit and keep our Island beautiful.

Secondly, it’s also a useful source of local information as it has car park spaces information, local weather and bus timetables.

Why we need Love Jersey

We’ve never had an online tool for Islanders to tell us where problems are and give us evidence. Love Jersey changes that.

It also helps us find the right people to fix issues. This is because reports are automatically sent to either the parish or the Department for Infrastructure (DfI).

Benefits of Love Jersey

Love Jersey benefits us because it:

  • is a single source of reporting problems
  • sends (mostly) automatic reports
  • keeps updates of progress on fixing the problems
  • provides the location and photo of reported issues which reduces the need for our staff to visit the site
  • can be expanded for more usage in the future
  • gives staff mobile access to the system which speeds up the time it takes to resolve the problem

Challenges we faced

We needed complex mapping technology so that issues were reported in the right place. It also made sure that either States or parish tasks were separated as the roads and locations were marked appropriately.

Although the system is used elsewhere in Britain, there were some Jersey-specific needs that had to be in our version. This took time but gave us a better final product.

What’s next?

Love Jersey has the potential to:

  • have more categories added
  • support specific clean-up campaigns
  • link into other systems
  • involve a wide range of users
