Request

Could you list the Jersey based GP surgeries where the premises are below expected standards since 2015.

Could you also explain how the surgeries/premises fell below standards, for what reason and what action was taken.

Clarification received

When I mentioned standards I was referring to the way in which GP practices are assessed. In the UK they follow the Care Quality Commissions guidelines for inspections as a guideline for standards. I assume it is the same or something similar here in Jersey.

Response

At present there are no regulations in place to inspect general practice premises in the way that the Care Quality Commission (CQC) regulates primary care in the UK. The Regulation of Care (Jersey) Law 2014 (the Regulations), makes provision for the regulation of all health and social care in the island, however the implement of this Law is dependent on the relevant Regulations being in place and these are being phased in over time.

The first phase of implementation will include the regulation of care homes, domiciliary care and adult day care centres. Over time it is intended that other services will be brought within the regulatory framework including cosmetic procedures, children’s services, social services, acute hospital services and primary care including primary care. The timescale for implementation of the Regulations for general practice is yet to be determined.
