Please may you detail:
How many beds in Robin Ward (Jersey General Hospital) are available for children with acute mental health problems?
How many young people have been treated in Robin Ward for acute mental health problems each year since 2014?
How many children under 16 have been treated as an inpatient at Orchard House (St Saviour) each year since 2014.?
Please also provide the age of the youngest patient treated for mental health problems in both Robin Ward and Orchard House for each of those years.
Detail the circumstances in which under 16s are treated in Orchard House instead of Robin Ward.
All Robin Ward beds are available for children with acute mental health problems as appropriate. There are currently 10 beds on Robin Ward but the total number will vary based on staffing levels and maintenance.
The table below shows the number of patients discharged from Robin Ward in each year under the specialty “Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services” (CAMHS).
Where numbers are fewer than five (<5), the actual figure has been suppressed to protect the identity of individuals under Article 25 (Personal Information) of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 (the Law).
During the period 2014 to 2018, fewer than five patients under 16 have been admitted to Orchard House.
Article 25 (Personal Information) of the Law has been applied as providing this information could lead to the identification of individual(s).
It is rare that Children and Adult Mental Health Services (CAMHS) patients under 16 years old will be admitted to Orchard House. A decision for a 16 year old to be admitted to Orchard House would be based on their level of need exceeding what can be safely managed on Robin Ward and where Orchard House is considered to be the more appropriate setting for treatment, or where there are no appropriate beds available on Robin Ward. Off island placements are considered in these incidences.
Article 25 Personal information
(1) Information is absolutely exempt information if it constitutes personal data of which the applicant is the data subject as defined in the Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2018.
(2) Information is absolutely exempt information if –
(a) it constitutes personal data of which the applicant is not the data subject as defined in the Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2018; and
(b) its supply to a member of the public would contravene any of the data protection principles, as defined in that Law.
