Concessionary bus passes (FOI)

Concessionary bus passes (FOI)

Produced by the Freedom of Information office
Authored by Government of Jersey and published on 05 April 2019.
Prepared internally, no external costs.

What is the annual cost to the States of Jersey, and to Liberty Bus if such statistics are publically available, of providing free bus passes to every Island resident aged 65 or over, regardless of means and / or ability to drive?

The annual cost, rounded to the nearest thousand, of reimbursing LibertyBus for the journeys recorded against concessionary travel passes is set out below.

2017£735,000 £80,000

The figures for concession passes include a small proportion of persons aged under 65. It is not possible to accurately disaggregate this cost.

The figures for AvanchiAccess, the pilot travel pass scheme launched in 2017 for persons with a prescribed disability, are shown for completeness. The figures for 2019 are a forecast based on previous years’ trends.
