Could Health and Social Services Department provide The total number of patients diagnosed and treated for dementia while in hospital in the years 2016 - 2017 - 2018 - 2019

Response

Health and Community Services does not have a central database of people in Jersey who have received a dementia diagnosis. Please find below data in relation to the Adult Mental Health Inpatient Services and the Jersey General Hospital.

Count of patients who had a diagnosis of Dementia and were admitted to a mental health ward. Beech, Cedar, Oak, Maple or Orchard House.

Please note this does not necessarily mean they were admitted due to dementia but that they had dementia when admitted.

Count of patients discharged from a Jersey General Hospital ward with a diagnosis of Dementia when the main reason for their admission was Dementia.

As the number of patients in each year are small, Article 25 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 has been applied in order to protect the privacy of individuals.

The total number of patients discharged with a diagnosis of dementia (primarily vascular dementia) over the four-year period (2016 to 2019) was 12.

(1) Information is absolutely exempt information if it constitutes personal data of which the applicant is the data subject as defined in the Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2018.

(2) Information is absolutely exempt information if –

(a) it constitutes personal data of which the applicant is not the data subject as defined in the Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2018; and

(b) its supply to a member of the public would contravene any of the data protection principles, as defined in that Law.

(3) In determining for the purposes of this Article whether the lawfulness principle in Article 8(1)(a) of the Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2018 would be contravened by the disclosure of information, paragraph 5(1) of Schedule 2 to that Law (legitimate interests) is to be read as if sub-paragraph (b) (which disapplies the
