Authored by Government of Jersey and published on 18 November 2020.

Nightingale Hospital, Millbrook kindly provide:

A breakdown of the £17.9 million spent 2020 to date and the £8.3 million budgeted for 2021.

The cost of repairing the Marquee 2020 to date after storm damage and water ingress.

The cost of installing the proposed heating system and the sound insulation work on the oxygen generators in order to be good neighbours and reduce the impact of noise generation.

The £17.9m figure for 2020 is a forecast taken from the six monthly update report of the Government Plan – Covid response, pages 145 and 146 of the document below:

Government Plan 2020-23

It is made up of three items with the actual spend to end July shown alongside. As the Nightingale wing has not been operational to date, costs will be substantially below the budgeted figure of £17.9m for 2020.

Nightingale Ward security costs (FOI)

The breakdown of the budgeted £8.3m for 2021 is as follows:

HCS Operational Costs

Staffing £3.1m
Non-Staff £1.2m

IHE Operational Costs

Non-Staff £1.3m
End of period works£2.7m

The figures above assume occupation of the facility to the end of March 2021 and include staffing and operational costs for HCS and the following for IHE:

  • building strip-out in April / May 2020

  • storage of reusable items

  • dismantling of the building and associated plant and machinery buildings

  • removal of all items from site

  • remediation of site back to previous condition

Actual costs will depend on the level of utilisation of the facility and tendered prices for the building strip-out and remediation of the field, which have not yet been finalised.

Minor water ingress problems with the main building have been undertaken by Neptunus at their own cost. We are not aware of any damage to the marquees on site providing additional cover to outside areas and facilities.

Works to winterise the building by increasing the heating capacity and the additional acoustic treatments are nearing completion. Estimated costs for this work are £357,000.
