Law Officers’ Department (FOI)

Law Officers’ Department (FOI)

Prepared internally, no external costs.

Request

I would like to know for each Solicitor General or Attorney General in the Law Officers Department who were appointed since 2010 until the present date:

A

The name of the law practices or chambers and dates in which each of these officers worked in Jersey and the United Kingdom before they were appointed into their Law Officer roles.

B

The names of any of their partners or colleagues in these law practices / chambers who have been appointed to the Judiciary in Jersey before or since 2010 to the present day giving the dates and positions they held (to include permanent and itinerant judges).

Response

We are unable to provide any information in reply to this request because we do not hold in our records the information requested in either of the two questions posed. Records relating to Judicial, Solicitor General, and Attorney General appointments are held by the Bailiff’s Chambers which is not a scheduled public authority under the FOI Law.

The processes for appointment of the Judiciary, Solicitor General, and Attorney General are summarised in Appendix 1 to the “Judicial Independence and the establishment of a Judicial and Legal Services Commissions consultation paper” which may be found at the following link:

Judicial Independence and the establishment of a Judicial and Legal Services Commission

These processes do not involve any public authorities which are scheduled under the FOI Law.
