Request

I am requesting the States of Jersey Police criminal investigation statistics for the past five years:

A

Total number of criminal investigations undertaken.

B

Total number of criminal investigation lasting more than:

  • one year

  • two years

  • three years

C

If any investigations have lasted more than three years, please explain the reasons for the length of time taken.

D

The average duration of a criminal investigation.

Response

A to D

In instances where there are multiple crimes involving the same perpetrator, same victim, and at the same time, only the most serious is counted for statistical purposes.

For example, if an individual commits an assault, and then damages the victim’s phone, only the assault would be a recorded, counted crime. This is in compliance with Home Office counting rules.
