Eviction requests brought to the Magistrate's Court (FOI)

Eviction requests brought to the Magistrate's Court (FOI)

Produced by the Freedom of Information office
Authored by Government of Jersey and published on 30 March 2022.
Prepared internally, no external costs.

Request

For each year from 2017, can you give;

A

The number of eviction requests the Magistrate's court considered.

B

The number of evictions requests for which the court granted permission.

C

Of the requests for evictions how many were from social housing landlords ( ie Andium and housing trusts) and how many were from private landlords.

D

Of the evictions granted by the Court, how many were from social housing landlords ( ie Andium and housing trusts) and how many were from private landlords.

Response

From the figures held we are not able to differentiate between the different social housing landlords.

Data are not collated for the "number of eviction requests the Magistrate's Court considered", so the figures provided below in response to request (A) should be interpreted as "number of cases brought to Court and heard at least once". This does not mean that there was a final hearing where the Judge refused to order the eviction.

Request (A): Number of cases brought to Court and heard at least once

Request (B): Number of evictions requests for which the Court granted permission
