Request

According to the latest information put out on the 'Our Hospital' page, there will be 267 PERMANENT beds in our new hospital. This does not tie in with the design brief. Could you therefore please provide a break down of the wards and beds numbers in each ward of these 267 permanent beds?

I don't just want how many wards and how many beds in each, I would like a proper breakdown (ie Surgical, Medical, Private etc) A fully transparent breakdown of each ward and what each ward will contain, not what it can be expanded to in an emergency. I want to know how many actual beds I will be able to count if I walk into that hospital and look into each ward, not bed head services. Actual beds available at ALL times.

Response

The A. Total Permanent Routine Beds (267 beds) number relates to the permanent overnight beds that are intended to be used on the first day the hospital opens.

The B. Total Additional Beds (44 beds) number relates to beds available for use as required in additional wards, which contains 24 beds (detailed as Additional Escalation) and 20 ambulatory care beds (detailed as Acute/Ambulatory Care).

The 24 Additional Escalation beds have been created from an area previously identified as administration space. This ward will only to be used in times of escalation for example to assist with winter bed pressures. The 20 Acute/Ambulatory Care beds are planned for daytime use, however, could also be used overnight if required in times of bed pressures.

Bed numbers are 267 permanent routine beds, plus 44 as required in addition, equating to 311 Total Routine and Additional Beds.

Current plans are subject to the outcome of the review initiated by the Chief Minister.
