Request

Can you please state what tests are carried out on the Bellozanne outflow for bacteria and nitrate levels?

Response

Bacterial analysis of the Bellozanne Sewage Treatment Works effluent is carried out a minimum of once a week. Total coliforms and faecal coliforms are monitored. The ultra violet plant monitors the quality of the effluent and varies the UV dose depending on flow and clarity.

Nitrate is tested five times every two weeks using a 24 hour composite samples. These samples are made up of a number of samples taken every 20 minutes over a 24 hour period so is representative of what is discharged over 24 hours.
