Dear Sir/Madam,
Under the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011, I am requesting the following information regarding discrimination and hate crimes targeting the LGBTQ+ community in Jersey. I believe this data would be held by the States of Jersey Police:
The number of hate crimes and incidents reported annually from 2020 to 2025 where the motivation was recorded as sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression.
A breakdown of these incidents by year and type (e.g., verbal abuse, physical assault, property damage, online harassment, or other forms of discrimination).
Any additional demographic data on victims (e.g., age group, gender, or other relevant categories) if recorded.
Any recorded complaints or reports of discriminatory behaviour (beyond hate crimes) targeting individuals based on sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression, such as in public spaces, schools, or workplaces.
This information will support a report on discrimination faced by the LGBTQ+ community in Jersey. If data for 2025 is incomplete, please provide figures up to the most recent available date.
Thank you for your assistance. I look forward to your response within the statutory 20 working days.
Yours faithfully,
Response
