In 2020 the Government of Jersey ended the year with a £67 million operating deficit. 

Income ended the year £31 million under projections, and expenditure was £11 million under budget.

The income and expenditure of States trading operations are excluded as these are funded from their trading funds. In 2019, States trading operations had a net revenue of £2,327,000; in contrast, in 2020 they had a net expenditure of £196,000.

In terms of Government of Jersey expenditure, of every £1 spent in 2018:

  • about 26p was on health (Health and Community Services)
  • 18p was on education (Children, Young People, Education and Skill)

Overseas aid

In 2020,​ the official contribution of overseas aid from Jersey was £12.1 million, of which:

  • £6.7 million was grant aid for international development projects
  • £3.1 million was disaster and emergency aid
  • £1.9 million was given to local charities working abroad
  • £0.1 million was given to community work projects

The official aid contribution from Jersey in 2020 was 14% higher than in 2019, when it was £10.4 million.
