The Courts of Jersey support the administration of justice in Jersey.

It includes:

  • the Courts
  • Judicial Greffe
  • Probation Service
  • Tribunal Service
  • Viscount's Department

These services help people access the justice system, resolve legal matters and carry out court decisions.

Main services and responsibilities

Courts

The Courts deal with a range of civil, family and criminal cases, including:

  • divorce
  • adoption
  • children proceedings
  • debt claims
  • criminal offences

Judicial Greffe

The Judicial Greffe provides administrative support to the courts and manages a range of legal services.

Probation Service

The Probation Service works with people involved in the criminal justice system.

It provides assessments, supervision and support to help reduce reoffending and protect the public.

The Tribunal Service hears certain claims and appeals under Jersey law, including:

  • Social Security matters

  • jury service
