Law Officers' Department

The Law Officers’ Department is a Non-Ministerial Department led by His Majesty’s Attorney General for Jersey.  

The Department’s responsibilities include:

• providing legal advice to the Government, the States Assembly and the Crown
• providing the independent public prosecution service for the Island 
• protecting the interests of the Crown and Government in civil proceedings 
• helping safeguard children and adults at risk
• assisting overseas law enforcement agencies 
• enabling the forfeiture and confiscation of the proceeds of crime
• carrying out the statutory and customary law duties of the Attorney General

The Law Officers’ Department does not provide legal advice to members of the public or businesses.
