Summary

​​To ensure that the RPI remains representative of consumer spending patterns the items that are priced in compiling the index and their associated weights are reviewed approximately every 5 years.

This report published in March 2007 on the latest Review of the Basket of Goods and Services describes the review process and explains how and why the various items in the RPI basket are chosen.
