Summary

This document presents the health informatics strategic vision for the States of Jersey Health and Social Services Department (HSSD) covering the six year period from 2013 to 2018 inclusive.

Health informatics will make a significant contribution towards delivering the objectives, and meeting the challenges, set out in the Health and Social Services white paper "Caring for each other, Caring for ourselves" published in 2012.

The white paper provides the blueprint for a 10 year programme of reforms and service improvement for health and social care which will demand new and improved skills and capabilities, business process transformation and cultural change to underpin the overall programme.

Data and informatics forms one of the major cross-cutting workstreams established to enable the service changes.

Covered in the document:

  • a definition of health informatics
  • scope of the strategy
    • data: the underlying quality of data and the data collection methods used across HSSD
    • systems: software and tools used to capture data and report information
    • information: presentation of data in an organised way to inform decisions
    • services: supporting resources e.g. people, skills, services
    • background and context:
  • future informatics vision
  • objectives & key themes
  • gap analysis (current state)
  • drivers for change
  • future informatics and requirements
  • current informatics provision
  • informatics strategy
