Summary
βThe Social Security Department compiles and administers data on people registered as unemployed and actively seeking work in Jersey. The States of Jersey Statistics Unit has taken over responsibility for independently analysing this anonymised data and since the end of January 2010 has published monthly reports of the figures.
This report is for August 2010 and shows that:
- the total number of people registered as unemployed and actively seeking work (ASW) in Jersey was 1,290
- the latest monthly ASW total is 40 higher than that of a month earlier in July 2010 and 380 higher than that of a year earlier in August 2009
- more than a quarter of the ASW total (330 people) were teenagers aged 16-19 years; 100 teenagers were on the Advance to Work Scheme
- on a seasonally adjusted basis, the total number of people registered as ASW was 150 higher than the monthly average for the first six months of 2010 β
