Summary
The Social Security Department compiles and administers data on people registered as unemployed and actively seeking work in Jersey. The States of Jersey Statistics Unit has taken over responsibility for independently analysing this anonymised data and since the end of January 2010 has published monthly reports of the figures.
This report is for September 2010 and shows that:
- the total number of people registered as unemployed and actively seeking work (ASW) in Jersey was 1,230
- the latest monthly ASW total is: 60 lower than that of a month earlier (August 2010); 320 higher than that of a year earlier (September 2009)
- a fall in the number of 18-24 year olds registered as unemployed and ASW accounted for 50 of the total net monthly decrease of 60
- a quarter of the ASW total (310 people) were teenagers aged 16-19 years; 120 teenagers were on the Advance to Work Scheme
- on a seasonally adjusted basis, the total number of people registered as ASW was at a similar level as in the previous 2 months
