Summary
The registered unemployment report for May 2011 has been released by the Statistics Unit
The May 2011 report shows that:
- on a seasonally adjusted basis, the ASW total is 40 higher than a month earlier (April 2011) and 120 higher than the monthly average seen in the first quarter of 2011
- the total number of people registered as unemployed and actively seeking work in Jersey was 1,340
- the latest monthly ASW total is 10 lower than that of a month earlier (April 2011) and 280 higher than that of a year earlier (May 2010)
- long-term unemployment (registered for more than 52 weeks) has almost doubled during the last 12 months and now accounts for 1 in 6 of the ASW total
- 270 teenagers aged 16-19 years were registered as ASW, some 20 fewer than the previous month; 130 teenagers were on the Advance to Work scheme
