Summary
The August report for registered unemployment shows that:
- on a seasonally adjusted basis, the total number of people registered as unemployed and actively seeking work (ASW) in Jersey was at the same level as a month earlier (July 2011) and 20 lower than the average for the preceding 3 months
- the non-seasonally adjusted ASW total was 1,350; this latest monthly total is at the same level as a month earlier (July 2011) and 60 higher than that of a year earlier (August 2010)
- long-term unemployment (registered for more than 52 weeks) has doubled during the last 12 months and now accounts for almost 1 in 5 of the ASW total
- 290 teenagers aged 16-19 years were registered as ASW. Of these, 130 were on the Advance to Work scheme
