Criminal Justice System Scoping Study Report

Produced by the Justice and Home Affairs
Authored by Dr Debbie King and Mr Douglas Mason and published on 05 Apr 2005
Cost: £12,300.00

The Criminal Justice System Scoping Study Report was sponsored by the Home Affairs Committee and the Legal Information Board.  The purpose was to look into the feasibility of establishing an integrated criminal justice system in Jersey.

Three main recommendations were made as a result of the scoping study:

  • it was not recommended to seek to implement a sophisticated, fully integrated criminal justice system at this point because the clsts, difficulties and risks outweigh the benefits at this time.  It was, however, recognised that it was a desirable aim for the future
  • it was recommended that a strategy group should be established with the task of overseeing the future development of the administration of criminal justice
  • it was recommendedthat the strategy group should oversee the implementation of a number of small projects that would improve efficiency in the current system and help position the criminal justice system for a possible future project to fully integrate systems
