Long-term vision: consultation
About the long-term vision: consultation
A wide-scale community consultation called Shaping Our Future was an important part of the process to shape Jersey’s first long-term, community vision.
Shaping Our Future began in January 2016 and closed in February 2018. It had the following objectives:
engage people in thinking about a long-term vision that draws together a range of economic, social and environmental outcomes
get a broad sense of how people think Jersey is doing today, their ambitions for the future, and where they consider the greatest need is for change
support the final vision for Jersey with a large consultative base
The aim was for the final vision to be published after findings from the consultation had been taken into consideration.
The two main elements of the public consultation were the My Jersey survey and the Future Jersey discussion document.
My Jersey was the biggest, and most successful, part of the consultation. Over a period of six weeks, Islanders completed a details online survey, asking them what they thought of Jersey now, and for their hopes for its future. Nearly 4,150 Islanders took part, adding 8,000 comments.
It was followed by the Future Jersey discussion document, which took the views expressed in My Jersey and combined them with facts and figures on how Jersey was performing, It then proposed a series of long-term social, environmental and economic ambitions for the Island, and asked people if they captured what they want for the future; whether the long-term vision was heading in the right direction.
The results of the Shaping Our Future public consultation were used to inform and shape the final long-term community vision, which was launched in March 2018 and can be viewed on the
Future Jersey pages.
Details of the consultations can be found on the
Shaping Our Future consultation page.
