Application for a Licence to Cultivate Industrial Hemp

The Minister is requested to consider an application for a 1 year licence to cultivate industrial hemp.
- Introduction
The genus Cannabis is a controlled drug in Class B of The Misuse of Drugs (Jersey) Law 1978 and a Schedule 1 controlled drug under the Misuse of Drugs (General Provisions) (Jersey) Order 2009
Under the provisions of Article 10 of the Misuse of Drugs (General Provisions) (Jersey) Order 2009 a licence may be issued authorising cultivation of low THC cannabis grown for the commercial production of industrial hemp fibre or the pressing of seed for oil.
An application has been received to cultivate approved EU varieties of industrial hemp with a view to producing seed and exploring the potential to produce animal bedding from the biomass product produced. The proposed seed varieties, crop location and proposed crop disposal have been assessed and deemed satisfactory by the Chief Pharmacist.
The application is to cover one growing season only.

The Minister is requested to approve the application and issue a licence authorising the cultivation and possession of industrial hemp for one growing season only.
