About Jersey Statistics Council
The Statistics Council was established in 2025 under amendments to the Statistics and Census (Jersey) Law 2018.
It represents the interests of statistics users and plays a key role in maintaining high quality official data.
The Statistics Council:
- advises public authorities on the production, use, and accuracy of statistics that provide insights into Jersey’s economy, population, society, and environment
- offers guidance on Tier 1 statistics on Statistics Jersey, Jersey’s most important official data
- can raise and publish concerns about the quality and reliability of key statistics
- provides a platform for the public and data users to engage with the Chief Statistician, Statistics Jersey, and other public authorities on statistical matters

Members of the Council
Dr Kathryn Chamberlain OBE was the first person appointed as Chair of the Statistics Council on 8 May 2025.
Appointment of Chair of the Statistics Council on States Assembly
On 10 June 2025, the Chief Minister gave notice of his proposed intention to appoint eight members to the council.
