Covid Related Emergency Support Scheme (CRESS)

About the scheme

Covid Related Emergency Support Scheme (CRESS) is our emergency scheme to support people who have:

  • been working in Jersey for less than 5 years, and
  • lost their full-time employment income because of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic

If you have been in Jersey for more than 5 years you must apply to Income Support.

We have also launched the Government Co-Funded Payroll Scheme, which will refund employers in eligible businesses a proportion of their wage bill. Workers should contact their employer to check if they are covered by the Payroll Scheme. It also covers self-employed workers.

For workers who are not covered by the Payroll scheme CRESS provides weekly payments to cover basic costs.

Help available from the CRESS Scheme

If you have been working in Jersey for at least 6 months, a weekly payment will be available:

  • a single person living alone will receive £150 a week
  • a couple who have both lost their employment income will receive £250 week
  • there is a child supplement of £50 per child

If you’ve been working in Jersey for less than 6 months an amount of £70 per week per person will be available.

Support with repatriation costs (returning to your home country) will be provided if travel arrangements can be made.

The scheme runs from 1 April and is planned to end on 31 August and payments will be made weekly in arrears. New applications to the CRESS scheme will not be accepted after 31 July.

Help towards housing costs

CRESS does not offer any additional support with rent or mortgage costs. If you are worried about these costs you should contact your landlord or mortgage lender.

Available for work

A condition of the CRESS scheme is that applicants are available to support any voluntary, Government or community work required during the coronavirus emergency. They must also undertake relevant job-seeking activities and take up any paid employment that is available.
